IE DROPMYRIGHTS SETUP - IAN MUTCH

When using the shortcut to IE DROPMYRIGHTS, which is created by the installer, you will be using Internet Explorer with reduced rights. This makes it more difficult for malware to be installed on your computer, though not impossible. Internet Explorer is not altered in any way, you are simply using it with reduced rights when you use the IE DROPMYRIGHTS shortcut.

In order to install Windows Updates direct from Internet Explorer, you should use your normal Internet Explorer shortcut. Also, if you are updating Flash, you should use your normal shortcut.

DropMyRights was written by Michael Howard and details can be found at

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms972827.aspx

You can use Process Explorer at

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Process-Explorer.shtml

to confirm that you are running Internet Explorer with reduced rights. (Right click iexplore.exe>Properties>Security. It will show BUILTIN\Administrators Deny,Owner.)
